I was given an advanced copy for Beta readins as a cross over Magician newer to Daemonolgy , to check ease of instructions and understand-ability.This book is great for beginners with clear easy to understand instructions, warnings and advice, but doesn't dumb down. It is also nice to have all of it in a separate tome , less bulky than the full size books I already own... If you have advanced training it might seem redundant but is a helpful refresher and as previously stated it is nice to have this info in a separate volume for easy reference.

This book on pacts comes from a very different perspective than most people seem to think about them. It was easy to read and understand and from a point of respect and care, not Hollywood hype movie garbage. I am glad I added this book to my library.

Very useful book there is there is much good practical advice within it but I feel not enough emphasis is placed on the dangers of not following through on your side of an agreement. If one breaks any agreement with any spirit or Daemon expect what was given to be taken back at minimum and you can potentially cause an issue between you and that entity. Otherwise the book is useful and to the point.

Hard to read!!!

The book is really hard to understand. There is no glossary. The author assumes everybody knows the terms he uses in the book. Philosophy is a beautiful subject, there is no need to make us feel like it is useless. The book just makes students feel dumb. Glad I got an amazing professor at University of Utah, professor Shannon Atkins, that makes the subject interesting.

It's hard understanding all the writings, but that's to be expected I suppose

I rented this book from Amazon for a required philosophy class at Utah Valley University. I'm just lucky that my teacher is able to explain the concepts very well because I have a really hard time understanding most of the principles from this book! Hopefully you get as lucky as I was to find a good teacher. If you go to UVU, it's professor Atkinson.

An excellent guide to clear writing

The book is fantastic. Hardly thicker than Strunk&White, it couldn’t be more different. Real advice, understandable explanations, illuminating examples, and a wide scope of relevant topics. Refreshingly, Williams eschews trite pearls of wisdom; he in fact devotes ample space to educate the reader about counterexamples to classical dogma, cases where opinions rehashed by venerated “authorities” really hurt. Yes, short sentences are great, but if you can’t write a long sentence that’s also understandable, you’re like a composer who cannot produce anything but jingles. Yes, using an active voice makes your writing more forceful and direct, but you will surprisingly often encounter situations where a passive construction is significantly preferable, for it eases the flow of information. (Besides, being forceful and direct is not always a virtue.) And yes, you’re on a good path if you can write good sentences, but if you can’t create cohesion between them, and coherence over a whole paragraph, your writing will remain opaque. I’m even in the target audience of the book: it’s not written for poets, it’s for people who need to communicate information (academics, journalists, but probably foremost: college students learning how to write essays). Hence, many examples are not too far away from what I deal with on a day-to-day basis, when writing grants, papers, or referee reports. The book closes with a beautiful reminder to those who don’t know why to bother with good writing, when there’s so much terrible writing going around. I quote: “What experienced readers know, and you eventually will, is that clear and graceful writers are so few that when we find them, we are desperately grateful. They do not go unrewarded." If that's no motivation to care, then I don't know what is.
There’s so much in this book that I loved—lessons, attitude, motivation, and more—that I can confidently recommend it to anyone who cares to improve their writing. What I don’t know yet, though, is whether the longer version of the book, “Style: Lessons in Clarity and Grace”, is even better, or says the same in more words and on more pages. But I will find out!

Incredibly Relevant!

This book could not have been released at a better time. It is incredibly relevant to the current state of affairs throughout the American culture. At a time when many are feeling helpless against economical issues, professional obstacles and the ongoing strains on family/relationships, this book gives light to some simplified avenues by which to reclaim ownership and power in all areas of our lives. An easy read with an excellent manner of storytelling meets truth and application!

About the Author
Phillip Clark is a veterinary clinical pathologist with special interest in comparative hematology. Formerly Director of Clinical Pathology Services of the Division of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences at Murdoch University, Australia. Dr Clark has written numerous scientific articles.

Wayne Boardman is Head of Veterinary Conservation Programs at Zoos South Australia, and formerly head of Veterinary Services at the Zoological Society of London, UK. He is a veterinarian with a large amount of experience with zoo and wild animals, including many species of birds.

Shane Raidal is Head of Veterinary Pathobiology at Charles Sturt University, Australia. Associate Professor Raidal is a specialist in avian health, and author of numerous scientific articles.

This lavishly illustrated text covers a range of topics from blood collection and handling, hematological characteristics of birds, pathological and physiological influences on avian hematology to a brief but useful foray into the world of avian hemoparasites.

Ambitious in its scope (covering over 100 species of birds from diverse Orders), it succeeds in defining many of the particular hematological characteristics of diverse bird lineages and yet still remains a concise and practical reference for use by avian clinical pathologists as well as avian clinicians in private, zoo and wildlife focused settings. Furthermore, biologists and ecologists investigating the health of free-ranging birds will find this book particularly useful. Its strength lies in its clear descriptive text, accompanied by a wealth of full-color photomicrographs.
