The deal was simple: Carolyn and her friends could return home after 21 days. What could happen in 3 short weeks? Rather a lot: Carolyn’s mother is livid about her “rescue” and Edward is being groomed for a chiefdom he doesn’t want. The Agency’s “elixir of life” has been perfected, and O.W.E. permits mean that certain humans have been authorised to work in the demon realms. The destroyer is about to face her greatest fear, and it has nothing to do with killing demons: She must decide what to do about Ethan and Note who risked everything for her and already accomplished the impossible in “Chasing the Demon”.

Gateway Series Reviews: "Demons? Check ! Portals? Check! One tough warrior heroine with a bone to grind with said demons? Check! Magic, Mystery and Mayhem? Check!" -Dii (top 500 amazon reviewer) "The narrative's strongest suit is its playfully steamy romance between destroyer and demon: "She held his wrists above his head...[and] nipped the tip of his nose with her teeth." A romping debut that's perfect for teenage fantasy fans." - Kirkus Reviews Fabulously appealing to YA audiences with a penchant for dark fantasy. - Dean "The Calling is a colorful, suspenseful, sensual, magical tale that keeps you wanting more even after you've turned the final page." - Windtrailpublishing "YA urban fantasies have been the thing for the last few years. However, The Calling is an original spin on an old otherworldly tale. It's a great read with an ending that will make you demand more." - A. E. Albert "I really enjoyed the author's writing style, and I could see some similarities between her style, and that of L.J. Smith in her Nightworld, Vampire diaries, and Dark visions series. Don't get me wrong, The Calling has no plot or character similarities, to these books, but it has the same character development and plot driving feel to it." - K.J. Simmill "When you think of magic, mages and demons let me guess Harry Potter or Buffy The Vampire Slayer springs to mind, am I right? Well this isn't a television show or movie you can safely view from home or you can hit pause when the scenes gets scary. No this is my life, imagine a doorway leading to another realm or planet appearing. Just like in Stargate SG-1 minus all the fancy lights and armed Marines. Every time the gate opens something explosive happens forcing me to answer its call. Just like with any door demons, monsters and other Otherworlders comes out and not all of them are very friendly. Who am I you ask? To my friends I'm Carolyn McInally. To my enemies, I'm known as the Destroyer!" - Christine

Pledged by magic.
By RAV
Ethan, Carolyn, Mario, Arthur, and Alyssa share the gift of magic. And powerful magic they have. Arthur is stern and in command. And the Seer – Alyssa attempts to dazzle him with past memories, giving him visions of the past. Carolyn has the privilege of Ethan’s company. And while there is a lot of tension between them, Ethan makes it clear to Carolyn that she is daddy’s girl. With her father – Arthur watching their move, they have little they can do. Yet, Carolyn has lost her magic abilities and seeks to get it back. Mario, who is in the company of Ethan, and Carolyn ads friction to their relationship.
In another realm, Hecaton and Edward contemplate on their predicament. Their castle, is under the powers of Lucas. Both Arthurs and Lucas’ world share the powers of magic. All realms seek control. And entering the gateway to the other world would certainly have its battles.
Then we have Sean, Morgan, Jonah, and Miranda and Croft. And of course there is Note, who was in the company of Hecaton and he wished to be free of him, for Hecaton loved dwelling in darkness and he was evil. And there are other characters to.
While reading the story I was trying to figure out all the characters, how they relate to each other, and boy, there are a lot of them! Author Louise G. White does a pretty good job in jumping from scene to scene – from characters to characters. While I enjoyed to story, and I understand Louis tried to do her best to explain the characters and situation, I have to give the author credit in doing it in such a way that it didn’t take pages and pages of descriptions and character development to tell the story. The story kind of reminded me of the Vampire Diaries, where young adults are involved what seems to be a soap opera tale. The story provides action, romance, and great chemistry between characters. There is a lot going on, and as you get deeper into the story, you start to really understand this paranormal world that Louise created. I’m not going to nit-pic over the many characters there are, because I was amazed by the how well they were woven into the tale.
I think the young readers, particularly high school students will enjoy this story. And while today much of the literature is geared towards the young generation, I think Louise G. White came out with this series at the right time. I’m giving this book 5 stars.

A Fascinating Paranormal Adventure!
By Believer
In "Pledged" the third book in the fascinating "Gateway" series the action-packed adventure continues as Carolyn, Mario and Ethan fulfill a promise to her father that breeds danger and emotional conflict; Notechis (Note) confronts his worst fear accepting his destiny to save another; and Amanda struggles with her rescue because of the strength of her bond to the Skean Chief. With the "elixir of life" being perfected Miranda Levy's power-hunger and obsession to control the Agency intensifies. With O.W.E. (Otherworldly Work Experience) permits being issued to specific humans to work in demon realms Miranda determinedly modifies the gateways for the Agency's access which she uses in a nefarious bid to take over the organization. But her plans go awry when one of the Investors goes into hiding and she loses the two Otherworlders she prizes. This is a story filled with subterfuge, violence, betrayal and even stronger undercurrents of love, friendship, hope and self-sacrifice.
In an imaginative world with multiple realms where shape shifting and magic abound, Louise G. White has created faeries, demons and powerful high mages. The Precators and their highly skilled agents bring balance to the realms, while the Agency exploits the power of Otherworlders that the demon Taz's organization were unable to rescue and integrate into human society.
Cleverly the author uses the main characters to relate the challenges and chaos the swirls around them as events unfold heightening the emotional intensity of the plot; like Amanda's struggle with her bond to Lucas, Edward's unsuccessful seduction of the human Rhona and his aversion to embracing his Kistatus body. As the strands of the plotline weave together the action heats up with twists and turns as suspense mounts keeping the reader on the edge of their seat from beginning to end.
As Carolyn grapples with her weakening bond to Note romance brews with Ethan after he braves the tear to rescue her. Yet she can't forget Note's quiet strength, patience, loyalty and unselfishness especially when confronted with his self-sacrifice at her brother's inauguration. I loved the romance that sparks between Jonah the shadow- faerie and headstrong Mel as well as the intimacy between Sean, the high mage and Siren who has a proclivity for women. With every romantic entanglement there are also warm friendships that strengthen the characters as they face emotional challenges and difficult decisions like Siren and Ella; Note and Sean; and Mario and Carolyn. In a story where the High Mage of Skean and Chief of the Lilium are powerful, merciless and disliked by their children, the author adds a richness to the storyline with the acceptance and closeness that eventually surfaces between them.
This entire series is rich in familiar and new characters like the quirky shadow-faerie Ella; self-assured and cautious Mario; and the stubborn, confrontational Edward. Note shines in his determination to stay faithful to the woman he loves while Carolyn's emotions are constantly in flux not only romantically but in making decisions that will affect her future. It is the high-energy, passion and drama of characters like these that not only enrich the plotline but make them unforgettable.
I loved "Pledged" with its inventiveness, world building and fast-paced adventure and I can't wait to see what Louise G. White has in-store next for her readers.

This book has; action, adventure, danger, magic, romance, and of course the destroyer.

Oh my gosh where do I start. I have been hanging out for this book since I finished Chasing the Demon in July last year. I’ve now read it and Loved it, but am sitting here trying to figure out how to tell you about the story without spoiling it.
At the start of the book we get a wonderful summary of the story so far. I loved the idea of the refresher summary and I loved the execution – It was like a warm hug from a friend I hadn’t seen in ages.
Each book introduced new charters while keeping the old, so yes there were a lot of characters to keep track off by the end of it, but the writing is easy to read and keeping up with them all wasn’t a problem. I found that the jumping around between the thirteen different POV characters pushed the story along at a ferocious pace.
This book has; action, adventure, danger, magic, romance, and of course the destroyer.
I was enthralled with the world Louise created after only a few chapters of the first book and she’s kept me so the whole way through, but alas, now the trilogy is complete.
The only bad thing I can say about this, the third book, is that it isn’t long enough. I would have loved to have gotten to spend more time with all of the characters, well most of them anyways.
In the first two books I was rooting for the other guy to win in the love triangle, but the way Louise ended it felt exactly right.
“…they leaped together into the first adventure of the rest of their lives.
The end.”
I’m looking forward to reading whatever Louise White comes up with next.
